Towards production

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog!

This week, myself and my group mates have done further investigation on the topic of parasocial relationships. We decided to split the topic of parasocial relationships into various little elements, such as comfort characters, effects on daily life, social isolation, fandoms, rival communities etc. in order for us to present a clear understanding of how big and common parasocial relationships really are. 

 

Ideas and progress

So far, myself and my group mates get along really well and what makes it easier for us is that we’ve all experienced a parasocial relationship in our lives, therefore no one is particularly confused or lost towards this topic. We’re planning to share and discuss our own experiences in this sense and speak about the conclusion that it has had on our our daily lives and social relationships.

 

We haven’t gotten into the stage of writing our script or deciding a recording setting, since we’re researching case studies and articles. So far, I’ve done research on theinfluence of parasocial relationships on follower’s purchases, persuasion, parasocial relationships in early adolescence,change of behaviour due to parasocial relationships and comfort characters. Myself and my group mates are hoping to divide our research so we all have a little bit to say about each element to make it fair, so that no one has too much or too little to say.

 

Furthermore, we’ve decided to reach out to a YouTube blogger, Sarah Z, who publishes documentaries on the topics of media criticism, fandoms and parasocial relationships. We’re hoping to interview her in order to discuss the topic in more detail as she has built a career from these documentaries and probably has a deeper insight and opinion. This is something I’m really looking forward to, as it will add a very interesting component to our project!

 

In terms of putting our video together, we agreed to split the editing in order to help each other and have equal workload instead of leaving all of it to one person since it can be overwhelming. As well as that, we want to let each other and ourselves gain experience from editing softwares since some of us are not very experienced with video editing, then we can give each other tips and advice. In conclusion, we’ll be able to learn more information about editing in the process of this project!

 

I’m very excited to start the production process of this project so that we can move on and begin having loads of fun with script writing and recording!

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog! Project completion! This week, myself and my group mates finally submitted our video project! Over the course of the project, I learned a lot, from actual project research to time management and submissions, which I will certainly reflect on and apply my knowledge to future group projects, as well as individual projects.    Throughout the course of this project, myself and my group mates have done a lot of individual research, but I found myself procrastinating from time to time, especially when it came to writing the script, since I wanted our video to be very informative, yet enjoyable and fun to watch. Peer Review #1

Hello everyone! This week, I took the time to expand my knowledge on the topic of feedback, specifically, how to give and receive feedback from others. Furthermore, I got the opportunity to review some of my course mate’s blogs.   I have read four articles in relation to feedback - ‘‘Try Feedforward Instead of Feedback’’, ‘‘Be a Mirror’’, ‘‘Is a fixed mindset holding you back?’’ and ‘‘Seven ways to crush self-doubt in creative work’. From these, I have learned about a “fixed” mindset and a “growth” mindset.  An individual with a  fixed mindset  refuses to believe that their talents and intelligence can grow and develop further. They keep themselves in a safe zone from which they can avoid making mistakes as they understand mistakes as a negative, making them doubt themselves and their work. Media Literacy

This week, I read two opinion pieces called ‘ ‘Digital Media companies found lacking in helping users understand the online environment’’ and ‘‘Ofcom research: Nearly half of people across the UK nations have come across false or misleading information about Covid-19’’. After I took my time to read and understand the two, I attempted to read a journal article called ‘‘News media literacy, perceptions of bias, and interpretation of news’’.  My experience of reading this week was surely more difficult than the others, however, I challenged myself and tried my best to understand the style of writing that was used in both opinion pieces, and the academic writing used in the journal article.   I found the opinion pieces to be significantly more interesting than the journal article. I was aware that misinformation can be found all over the web, however, I was surprised to discover that the vast majority of media platforms aren’t willing to promote the importance of digital literacy....
