Peer Review #1

Hello everyone! This week, I took the time to expand my knowledge on the topic of feedback, specifically, how to give and receive feedback from others. Furthermore, I got the opportunity to review some of my course mate’s blogs.

I have read four articles in relation to feedback - ‘‘Try Feedforward Instead of Feedback’’, ‘‘Be a Mirror’’, ‘‘Is a fixed mindset holding you back?’’ and ‘‘Seven ways to crush self-doubt in creative work’. From these, I have learned about a “fixed” mindset and a “growth” mindset.
An individual with a fixed mindset refuses to believe that their talents and intelligence can grow and develop further. They keep themselves in a safe zone from which they can avoid making mistakes as they understand mistakes as a negative, making them doubt themselves and their work.
On the other hand, an individual with a growth mindset takes their mistakes as an advantage since they use them to reflect on themselves and their work, giving them an open eye for how they can improve.
It was quite enlightening to learn about these, and I’m hoping that I could see my own experiences through the growth mindset and reflect on the mistakes I may make in the future.

This information made me sit back and think about the way I perceive given feedback. Personally, I like receiving feedback on my work since it makes me inspired to continue doing what I enjoy to do if the feedback is positive.
I have to say, receiving feedback from my peers was very motivating as I got to see where I can add improvements and new techniques into my work for an easier read through. However, giving feedback to others was a little bit out of my comfort zone, because of my own experiences with self doubt, I want to avoid making others feel the same way, yet I need to understand that giving feedback is not a negative and it can help someone in the near future.
